Near the end of the war there were strikes and demonstrations in Berlin and other cities, the public were protesting that the affects of the war were causing ; many people to starve because the Brittish naval blockade on the German ports. ' "It was near the end" Kaiser Wilhelm II wrote on November 9th 1918. Finally on the 11th of November 1918 at 6am the leaders of both sides held a meeting in Ferdinand Foch's railway carriage headquarters at Compiegne. The Armistice was signed and came into action five hours later'
